Charles is qualified in Sports Massage Therapy, Injury Rehabilitation, Corrective Exercise, Medical Acupuncture, Rock Taping, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation) and Osteopathic Articulation and Spinal Manipulation.

Contrary to what the name suggests, this type of therapy is not solely for sporting individuals and athletes. It is in fact, just as effective for those suffering from muscular discomfort and/or injuries irrelevant of gender, age or sporting ability.

Through regular activity be it sporting, work, or the stresses and strains of daily life, our muscles become overworked and tired. This causes symptoms of 'tension', and in some cases 'soreness' and 'pain', which in turn can force us to change the way that we move and function. If not addressed, these muscular imbalances can affect our health and wellbeing as well as performance.

Sports Massage Sessions are purely for soft tissue based treatment. If you require assistance with a new or long standing issue or injury that requires investigation and rehab, please book a Sports Therapy Session.

  • WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Charles uses a variety of Corrective Exercise interventions and Manual Therapy techniques (mentioned above) in his sessions, tailoring them to each individual as appropriate to their needs and/or condition, to get the best results.

Corrective Exercise looks to improve strength, mobility, flexibility and function of specific areas of the body that are identified as requiring it. These exercises/stretches will be walked through and references provided to ensure that you have the tools to progress outside of the clinic.

Soft Tissue Therapy typically focusses on the muscular, tendinous and ligamental structures of the body, and involves very common and well known massage techniques applied with or without movement.

Osteopathic Articulation and Osteopathic Spinal Manipulation, focus more on the peripheral joints of the body and the spine, and involves the application of movement (articulation) to a joint, and if required manipulation of a joint using high velocity thrust.

Medical Acupuncture involves the insertion of single-use, ultra-fine sterile needles into the skin and muscle tissue, to stimulate the sensory nerves.

Kinesiology Taping (Rock Taping) involves the application of thin, elastic sports tape in specific way to specific areas of the body for injury rehabilitation, to reduce swelling and provide pain relief, correct muscle movement and posture, offer support during pregnancy, delay muscle fatigue and increase blood and lymphatic circulation.

All treatments and techniques will be discussed and agreed with you before they are applied.

  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

The initial session will last approximately 1 hour and will include a mandatory consultation, static and dynamic assessments (as appropriate) to ensure that we address your issues fully, that we are working safely and in your best interests. The treatments are always discussed with you before any type of therapy is applied and you're happy with the approach. Treatments can at times be uncomfortable during and afterwards, but Charles will communicate regularly throughout to ensure that he is working within your limits, and inform you of what to expect following a treatment. However, the effects are always subjective and depend largely on the issue being addressed and how long it has been evident.

Everyone is treated as an individual. Your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs and comfort level. If it is identified that this therapy is not appropriate or most beneficial to your needs or the issue in question, Charles will happily refer you to the right person or suggest the most appropriate treatment to pursue.

Follow-up sessions are available in 1hr or 30 minute blocks and will depend on what is most appropriate to your needs and goals.
